APPLICATION FOR COLLEGE ADMISSION

College Admission
-is the process through which students enter tertiary education at universities and colleges.
College Application Letter
-are written when seeking admission into the college. It is written by the student who wants to apply for the course. As a request is being made, the letter should have a polite tone.
-it also gives an impression about the applicant and hence care should be taken while drafting the letter. It is better if the applicant checks the letter twice before sending it to the concerned person in the college.
Writing an Application Letter
Some universities have their own criteria for the application letters, like the limit on the number of words, content to be written, etc. But, the format followed by most universities is the same. You have to talk about your achievements and past education, why you intend to apply for the particular university and course, etc. The trick to a well written application letter is in being honest with what you have written, and using the right words. You need to keep the following four factors in mind while writing to a university.

Be to the Point: Keep in mind that you are supposed to write a letter, not an essay. Do not include unnecessary details in your letter. Some universities do have essay writing as part of the application process.

Pay Attention to the Flow: The letter should be so well-written that it holds the attention of the reader till the end. The flow should intelligently shift from one paragraph to the next.

Present the Facts: Lots of students tend to write letters just for the sake of it. But you should also pay attention to the facts. The authorities can anytime crosscheck your details, and if some false information is found, stringent action would be taken.

Read after Drafting: Proofread your article at the end. There might be some minor mistakes like in punctuation, and spellings, which need to be corrected.
When you will write your college application letter, you will be needed to focus on your specific situation. You will need to include:
• Why you want to attend this particular school
• What are your academic interests are
• How the school is a good fit for your academic interests and long term goals.
• How your background and future interests make you a great candidate to consider
• Any special connections you have to the school (i.e., do you have relatives who graduated from the school?)
• Details on how the other components of your application packet will be received
• A specific request to consider you for admission.
• Details on how to contact you.

STAND OUT TO COLLEGE ADMISSION OFFICERS
A well-written letter can be a terrific add-on to your college application package. Not everyone will think to send this kind of document so it just might help you stand out among the other applicants. Of course, a poorly-written letter can have the opposite effect. So, be sure that your letter follows an appropriate BUSINESS LETTER FORMAT, really presents you in a positive light, is well-written and error-free.

College Application Letter Writing Tips
• First and foremost, you must express your sincere and genuine interest in the course offered by the university.
• The tone of the letter should be polite expressing respect towards the university.
• You must emphasize as to why you would like to opt for particular course.
• As it is a formal letter, words and phrases should be chosen carefully.

Dear Name of Head of Admissions:

After doing much research about colleges in the area that have a Psychology program, I am applying to Ohio State University because of the outstanding reputation and the exceptional reviews that I have read from other recent graduates. Additionally, I am enthusiastic about Psychology program at the Ohio State University because of the graduate psychology programs that are offered.

Currently, I am just beginning my journey and ready to dive into the undergraduate studies program. My ultimate goal is to finish the Psychology program at Ohio State University. Once I have completed my undergraduate in psychology, my desire is to continue my studies and enter the graduate program for psychology where I may be a counselor dealing with children. I am sure this is the correct career path, as I grew up in a family where my father was a counselor and my mother a social worker. My father is a graduate of the Ohio State University, and my mother a graduate of OU University. Considering both of my parents have similar career paths, I feel like I would be honoring them and their dedication to helping others by entering this field of work.

Pursuing a psychology major is my long-term goal, and I would like to start by earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ohio State University. I have attached my application, as well as transcripts, an essay, and all of my letters of recommendation as defined in my admissions packet. I appreciate your time and consideration and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
